By Kuldeep and Parvinder

Upper Flume Trails located in the Tsutswecw provincial park is a beautiful place comes under BC parks. There are a lot of trails in this area for hiking. Our hiking trip to the Upper flume trail took place on Sunday 13th October 2019. It was a chilly morning in Kamloops. We all team members met with our participants at Gear Bay of Thompson Rivers University by 9:00 am and headed to trail in the bus.

Here we were at our location and ready to start a hike after a brief lecture from our guides on hiking. It was a beautiful day with drizzling. Everyone was so excited and keen to learn more about that place. As one of our guides is a resident of that place so we had an advantage to learn more about the place.

Upper flume trail is a steep up and steep down trail. There are many bridges and waterfall on the way and this is the specialty of this place which makes it more amazing. Everyone wanted to click pictures to capture this scenario for the rest of their lives. Near the waterfall, we performed a question-answer session and for the right answer, they get rewarded with doughnuts.

Here we came back from the upper flume trail and did a cake ceremony for successful completion of our upper hike and had lunch. Because of the rain, we made a few changes in our plan and upon everyone’s request to do more hike. Then, we went to lower flume trail and performed the rest of our activities like chit games having tasks and learning about each other by swapping places at different locations on the trail.

We enjoyed snacks all the way and gained knowledge. Here our guide Nelson was telling us about salmon fishes life cycle, and we saw dead or about to dead salmon in the river. We also understand the concept of bears which live in this area. All the trails were well maintained, but we also hiked on the non-maintained route of the lower flume trail. It was an adventurous part of the trip. After this, we followed the trail back to the parking lot.

Here was another surprise from our bus driver waiting for us. He made tea for us with milk and honey because it was cold. It was really a warm gesture from him. After this, we headed towards the Gear Bay and ended our trip beautifully. At the end of the day, we all became friends and captured a lot of memories. We as a trip leader was really happy to be the part of this trip.

Thank you everyone, to join us.
